Two things I don’t watch a lot of are documentaries and short films. Recently I screened a film that falls into each category – too bad it wasn’t that great of a representation of either.

Review – The Hangover Part III
The wolf pack is back yet again. *sigh* Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zack Galifianakis), and Doug (Jusin Bartha) are older, but hardly wiser in this final episode of a franchise never intended to be a trilogy
Review – Epic
Based on a children’s book by author and frequent film maker, William Joyce, Epic is a big story about little people. When Mary Katherine (Amanda Seyfried) comes to live with her estranged father (Jason Sudeikis), she’s dismayed to find he’s even more obsessed than ever with a secret magical forest society he’s convinced exists. AContinue reading “Review – Epic”
Review – The Great Gatsby
Somehow I have managed to avoid both reading the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel and seeing any of the numerous film and television portrayals. So, for better or for worse, I went into this one more or less without any preconceived notions. What did I think of this raucous telling of the mysterious man knownContinue reading “Review – The Great Gatsby”
Review – Peeples
Another week, another romantic comedy. Presented by Tyler Perry, whose only apparent influence here is his checkbook, Peeples stars Craig Robinson as everyman Wade Walker. He’s just trying to find the right moment to propose to his live-in girlfriend Grace Peeples (Kerry Washington). Unfortunately that right moment never seems to come, especially as he dealsContinue reading “Review – Peeples”
Review – Pain and Gain
Michael Bay takes a break from giant robots and even bigger explosions with a much lower budget and smaller scale film than he’s directed lately. Based on the real life exploits of the “Sun Gym Gang,” Pain and Gain is the story of a group of criminal bodybuilders, portrayed here by Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg,Continue reading “Review – Pain and Gain”
Review – Jurassic Park 3D
Twenty years ago dinosaurs became cool thanks to a little film called Jurassic Park. I’m going to assume you’ve seen it already, and if you haven’t, you probably just don’t have any interest in seeing a bunch of people trying to avoid getting eaten by velociraptors while stuck in a theme park created by ScottishContinue reading “Review – Jurassic Park 3D”
Review – Olympus has Fallen
The first of two “The White House is being attacked by terrorists” movies coming out this year, Olympus has Fallen stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman in an action movie so over the top and outrageous, you have to see it to not believe it.
Review: Snitch
Inspired by true events, Snitch is the story of a suburban dad, turned undercover Narc in order to reduce the sentence for his son who made a bad call. John Matthews (Dwayne, “The Rock”, Johnson) is a hardworking owner of a construction shipping company. When his estranged son is busted accepting a package of EcstasyContinue reading “Review: Snitch”
Review: Beautiful Creatures
Hot on the heels of Twilight, Beautiful Creatures is chomping at the bit to become the next hot young adult supernatural romance. Like Twilight, it is an adaptation of a novel – the first in a series. It tells the story of a forward-thinking high school student stuck in a middle of nowhere southern town,Continue reading “Review: Beautiful Creatures”
