This week we have two new wide releases. One has an award worth pedigree – the other has anything but. Are either of them worth seeing though?
Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem. Director Ridley Scott. Written by Cormac McCarthy. Seems like a sure thing before we even get into the plot about a greedy lawyer that tumbles into the underbelly of drug trafficking.
I know other critics who pegged this as one of the top films of the fall. Sadly, I’m hearing pretty much nothing but bad things about this ambitious film. I wasn’t able to screen this one, but you’d probably do best at ignoring the enticing cast and trailers – sounds like it’s a dud.

Johnny Knoxville of Jackass infamy dresses up as an old dude, traveling the country with a young kid, doing stupid Jackass type things while catching people’s reactions on hidden cameras. There’s supposedly a plot in there somewhere also.
Really? If I wanted to waste my time watching dumb guys do dumb stunts on camera, there’s youtube for that. This got my nomination for worst movie of the fall. If you see it, let me know if I was right, but I’d advise against killing that many brain cells.
