After last week‘s barrage of choices, things have quieted down for the first October weekend. Here’s what you’re looking at.
The big (and I do mean big) one this weekend is Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. The story is set around two astronauts who are stranded in space when disaster hits their spacewalking mission. Struggling to survive, and get back home, this is a story of perseverance and sacrifice.
By far, this is the best looking film of the year. Yes I found problems with the plot and character development, but do yourself a favor – go see this on the biggest IMAX screen possible, in 3D. It looks incredible. You will be amazed.

When a college student (Justin Timberlake) realizes he may have been cheated out of a significant amount of money (his tuition) while playing online poker, he takes matters into his own hands. Flying off to Costa Rica, he confronts the site’s owner (Ben Affleck). Instead of becoming enemies, the two decide to team up, making more shady money together from other gamblers. It sounds thrilling – unfortunately, everyone seems to agree it’s quite boring and bland. I haven’t seen it yet, so I can’t say if I agree or not, but I’d say Gravity is the safe bet this weekend.

Metallica Through the Never
It’s easy to determine whether or not to see Metallica Through the Never. Do you like Metallica? If you answered yes, you should see it. Do you dislike Metallica? If you answered yes, you should not see it. If you’re somewhere in the middle – you enjoy rock but are not explicitly a fan of Metallica, you may or may not enjoy it. This is essentially a feature length concert going full blast the entire time, with some trippy music video plot elements woven in here and there between songs. It’s pretty amazing to watch, but if you’re not a fan, probably stay clear.
Metallica Through the Never expands out of IMAX this weekend.
